The inauguration of the newly announced Kumari Aryatara

The Sansthan had sent a letter to 15 residents of the city asking them to recommend names for the new Kumari. The Sansthan stated that Aryatara Shakya was selected as the new Kumari according to the traditional method, with the advice of the Nirikh Mandal, Guthi Sansthan and Panchang Nirikh Samiti (local community), from among the names received.

It is customary to worship the Kumari as a living goddess. It is a tradition for the Head of State to also visit the Kumari on the day of Kojagrat Purnima, Indra Jatra and special ceremony and local festival.
