In a remarkable achievement during the spring 2026 Himalayan climbing season, climber Mr. Oleksandr successfully summited Mt. Manaslu (8,163 meters) on April 28 at 8:26 AM, completing the ascent without the use of supplemental oxygen or external support.

Oleksandr was part of the “Breather and Walking Manaslu Expedition” a two-member expedition team attempting the world’s eighth-highest peak. Demonstrating exceptional endurance and technical skill, he reached the summit in stable morning conditions, marking a significant milestone in high-altitude mountaineering.

His climbing partner, Mark, was forced to halt his ascent at Camp III after suffering severe cold exposure that resulted in freezing to his hand.

The expedition highlights both the triumph and risks of high-altitude climbing, especially on challenging peaks like Manaslu in spring season, where unpredictable weather and extreme conditions test even the most experienced mountaineers.

The team reached Base Camp via the high Larke Pass (5,113 m) within four days from Kathmandu. During the first rotation, they climbed to 6,100 m near Camp II before returning to Samagaun.

The summit push began on April 26, moving from Samagaun to Camp 1.5. On April 27, they reached Camp III and continued to Camp IV. The final summit push took place early on April 28, with the summit reached at 8:26 AM. The team descended back to Samagaun on April 29 at 11:00 PM.

Oleksandr’s oxygen-free ascent stands as a testament to human resilience and preparation, marking a notable success in the spring 2026 climbing season in Nepal, achieved without any external support.

The expedition was managed by the Asian Hiking Team, a Kathmandu-based climbing agency with extensive local experience.
