UN Secretary-General Guterres visits Annapurna Base camp

Today (31/10), United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who is visiting Nepal, reached the Annapurna base camp and recorded a video message about climate change.

When he reached the Annapurna base camp during his visit to Nepal, he said that he found that the Snow Rivers are melting due to climate change.

"The participants of COP 28 should come here and see," he said while standing at the Annapurna base camp, "The Snow Rivers are melting fast, which causes floods and landslides." The United Nations Conference on Climate Change COP 28 is being held in the UAE from November 30.

Guterres said that if the effects of climate change continue in this way, one day there will be no snow in the mountains. He said that when there is no snow, the rivers will dry up and people will not get water.

He spent Monday night at Fistel Lodge in Pokhara and returned to Annapurna Base Camp on Tuesday morning in a helicopter of the Nepali Army.

When he came to Pokhara on Monday, he took a boat ride in Phewa Lake and visited the huge statue of Mahadev at Pokhara-22 Pumdibhumdi.

He is leaving for Lumbini from Pokhara. After inspecting Mayadevi Temple, Buddha Birth Memorial, Pushpakarni Pond, Ashoka Pillars, a program has been held to welcome Guterres under the peepal tree of Mayadevi Temple and Ashoka Pillar complex.

It is expected that Secretary General Guterres' visit to Lumbini will spread the message of peace of Lumbini and Gautama Buddha around the world and help in promoting tourism in the Lumbini area.
